Business Update: February 2020

I am a huge fan of transparency. My hope is that by showing you exactly what I am doing in my business, it will inspire you to make similar changes in your business.

I started the year with a bit of a revamp. I expanded my website, updated my logo, and revamped my services. For the first time in a while, I finally felt like I was heading in the right direction. Everything felt aligned.

But that wasn’t enough.

As much as things felt clear to me, I had to look at it from the standpoint of my ideal clients. Would everything seem as clear and aligned to them?

After a bit of honesty with myself, the answer was no. I could provide more information and be more direct.

As a business owner, it’s easy to get caught up in our own idea and vision, but every now and then we need to take that step back and look at things from the point of view of our ideal clients.

So, I began tweaking my website and messaging some more. I expanded my services pages so each category has its own page and clearly outlined my services. I am being more informative and provide more clarity to my ideal clients. This is the sweet spot.

This quarter, I also decided to focus on two key areas: Content and Instagram. I only focus on specific things because I want to be able to experiment, test, track results and analyze. Plus, it makes it easier to manage –  hello, limited time and resources.

Content: I used to despise creating content, especially blog posts. But I realized I was placing unrealistic expectations on myself. 2 blog posts per week could not fit comfortably into my workload, but 2 to 4 strong blog posts per month could. I pre-planned all my blog posts, so now I am working with a bank of blog posts to pick from and start writing. My idea bank includes target keyword, categories, and a short outline of the topic. Now I can write at leisure, but I have enough topics that I can produce enough blog posts for the year.

I also have a goal to produce a few freebies and paid products that would make the lives of solopreneurs and entrepreneurs easier. My intention is to provide as many resources to you as possible, outside of my services, so you can access it at any time and on your time. My email list will be the number one way to gain access to this new content, so I will be showcasing a heavy push to drive my visitors to sign up for my email list.

Social Media: Growing a few of my social media accounts are very important to me. Not because I care about likes and followers, but because I know that is where I can make connections with my ideal clients. Managing multiple social media accounts is time-consuming, so I have decided to focus on one per quarter until I can get into a rhythm that works and automate it (to an extent).

This quarter, the focus is on Instagram. This is month 2 of this system, and I have already increased my following by 45%. For the short term, that is amazing results. I want to be sure I can sustain this type of growth for the long term before I am thoroughly satisfied with this system.

I hope you enjoyed this peek into my business and operations. I will continue to post updates monthly!
